New Idea, Research and Planing
We decided to change ideas and scrap our old film because we weren't feeling satisfied with it as well as taking advice from our teacher and student in the class. Our new idea for an opening sequence is much more clear than the our older opening sequence, the narrative and story plot is much clearer. We've decided that our film will go under the a drama/ adventure genre. Our synopsis is of a late teenager called JJ, we decide this would be his name because, JJ is a name short for such names as Jason or James and another middle name beginning with a J. This gives the connotations of a young adult/ teenager. This name can be associated with a person of a lower class and status. Because of stereotypes an audience would immediately associate of a person of a lower with drugs.
This is our Story board
The first shot is a black screen, this will all of our titles and our film name. This next shot will be a still a black screen, this time there will be diegetic sound of a phone ringing. We hope to use the original iphone ringtone because it is the most widely known as a ringtone. We are also going to use diegetic sound of wind in the fields, because that is where our our story is set. This will hopefully make an enigmas in the audience, such as 'Why is there a phone ringing?' and 'Why is there sounds of wind in a field?' This will hopefully get the the audience excited and guessing what would come next. This is called a J cut, when you can hear the audio before you see the screen video. The third shot is the opening shot and an establishing shot of a field, with a landscape in the background, on the left corner, there will be a body lying face down in the field, we chose to have the body lying down in the bottom left side of the corner because of the rule of thirds, corners of photo/shot are enticing to the human eye. This creates another enigma in the audience, such as ' Is the man dead?' and ' What has happened to him?' The fourth shot a medium close up of the the body's hand on the floor, with his fingers twitching as he is waking up to the sound of his phone ringing. The fifth shot, is an extreme close of JJ opening his eyes, at this point the phone ringing would have stopped once he has opened his eyes and the field winds will get stronger and louder once he has opened his eyes this, we are going to do this because, now that he has woken, his senses like sound will be much greater and more functional than before, when he was asleep/ passed out. We are also going to put the sound of birds, because in movies, birds are typically what you hear when you wake up. The sixth shot is a shot of the first shot, this time JJ struggling to stand up. The seventh shot, is mid shot, of JJ shoulders and head, with him wiping his face and wiping the sleep off of his eyes, revealing his bloodshot red eyes, black eye, and a gash in his cheek. All the focus will be on his JJ, blurring out what is in the background, this camera technique is called deep focus. The eight shot is a low shot of JJ picking up his phone from the floor. The ninth shot is an over the shoulder shot of JJ looking through his voicemail from his mum and other family members that have tried to call. The tenth shot is a shot of JJ walking away into the distance, his figure will start to fade to another figure of him walking ahead to show the passing of time.
Sound and Audio
There will be two characters in the film, 'JJ' and 'Mum'. The mum is a nameless voice actress in the opening scene, this suggests inequality between men and women in our film. Although she is the worried, helpful and caring mother of JJ she is yet helpless because her son is lying face down in a field, bruised and cut. This is to challenge the social inequality, and the audience end up feeling sorry for her. JJ is a young adult who is living in a lower class background. JJ is stereotyped as doing drugs and committing crimes because he has a lower status.
Locations
We have looked at several places to film.
This is the first possible place to film, it is the lower part of Salcombe Hill Cliff. The hazard is that we are filming near a cliff.
This is the second possible place to film its in a forest near the top end of the Salcombe Hill Cliff in Sidmouth. The hazard is that the cliff near by.
This is the forest thats near the top end of Salcombe Hill Cliff in Sidmouth. This would be an idle place to film, because there are lots of trees, which adds to the mysterious side of the story.
Risk Assessment
There are a few risks involved with filming on a cliff, in particular the cliff we are filming on. We have made sure where we want to film and where not to film.
This is the first possible location we can film in, the red lines in the photo is where we must not go because it is a hazard and a cliff edge. As well as near the cliff edge is an area we must not go. The green circle is where we are filming.
This is the other photograph/map of the forest that is our idle place to film. The red lines show the edge of the cliff, as well as ground near the edge of the cliff. The green line is a safe place to do our filming.
Roles and actors
My younger brother Theo is going to be playing the role of JJ, he is 16 and looks the age of a young adult. He is the ideal age for our film, because our target audience are also young adults of ages 16-18.
